IDFA and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam present Video Club with Ansuya Blom, with a screening of Blom’s films on 20 November 2022.
This program brings together the artist’s works from the Stedelijk’s time-based media collection, produced from 1984 to 1989, with a selection of new moving-image works. Since the 1970s, Blom has been active as an artist in the media of painting, drawing, and filmmaking. Her works are marked by their investigations of interiority, the marginalized subject, and its frictions with the external world. The use of language and narrative plays an important role in Blom’s unique filmic works. She frequently sources texts, such as writings by poets including Sylvia Plath and Langston Hughes, creating a singular visual and emotional world around them. Featuring somber scenes of domestic interiors and footage of internal organs overlaid with voice-over, Blom’s moving-image works in the Stedelijk collection defy genre. After the screening, Ansuya Blom will be joined in conversation by curator Monika Szewczyk. Ticket sales exclusively via www.stedelijk.nl
