Hidde van Seggelen is proud to announce the new publication: ‘The Exquisite corpse, the Grammar of Ornament’, to accompany the special project by Harmen Brethouwer in cooperation with Young & Ayata architects, New York.
This project “explores the relations between knowledge, craft and aesthetics” and “puts everything, all human construction into circulation and potentional combination”. The result is a set of five 3D printed versions of Brethouwer’s signature cones, made following the surrealist parlor game of cadavre exquis and using the Dada techniques of conceptual collages. Designed with wide ranging, non-standard materials, they feature combinations of contemporary patterns inspired by the famous book ‘The Grammar of Ornament’ by Owen Jones from 1856. The publication will be presented at TEFAF Maastricht. With a text by Michael Young, partner of Young & Ayata and Assistant Professor at The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at the Cooper Union.
