Klaas Kloosterboer Born in 1959, Noord/Zuid Schermer (NL) is a Dutch artist known for his abstract paintings and large-scale suit sculptures. Central to Kloosterboer’s practice is the tension between deconstruction and construction. He often begins by deconstructing traditional notions of painting, breaking down forms and colors into their constituent parts. He then reconstructs these elements, creating new compositions that challenge viewers’ expectations and perceptions.
Klaas Kloosterboer’s participation in the seminal “Dumb Painting” exhibition at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht in 1992, alongside artists such as Steven Parrino and Ian Davenport, solidified his position. His work has been featured in numerous national and international exhibitions and is held in esteemed collections, notably that of the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, where his work was included in their experimental 2020 drive-thru exhibition. Additionally, the Kröller-Müller Museum recently presented a solo exhibition dedicated to Kloosterboer, titled “The Rules and the Game” (July 2022 – January 2023), a comprehensive overview of his practice, highlighting his characteristic interplay of deconstructive and constructive methodologies.
