HIDDE VAN SEGGELEN is delighted to announce a significant acquisition of an installation by Dutch artist Klaas Kloosterboer by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bavaria, Germany.
First presented at Munich Highlights 2024, the installation is a compelling example of Kloosterboer’s distinctive practice. The work comprises a large-scale suit alongside four canvases, and its acquisition marks an exciting new context for the work’s critical dialogue.
Following its initial display, the installation will embark on a tour, travelling between various churches throughout the state of Bavaria. This itinerary will be accompanied by a series of talks and performances to further engage with the complex issues such as identity, morality, and community raised by the work.
The appearance of objects such as the ‘Suits’ and other articles of clothing within the oeuvre of Klaas Kloosterboer requires a critical evaluation that goes beyond a mere stylistic deviation. Kloosterboer’s practice consistently navigates the terrain between abstraction and concrete action, explicitly questioning the elements of painting and its conventional modes of presentation. This pivotal acquisition underscores the ongoing relevance of Kloosterboer’s radical approach to the canvas and its expanded field.
Works by Klaas Kloosterboer are in permanent collections in the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterloo, Museum Voorlinden, Wassenaar and in numerous private collections in the Netherlands, and abroad.
